Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

The region of the Great Lakes of Africa has been wracked with conflict since long before the Rwandan genocide and and the Congo wars of the beginning of the 2000s. It is a land of multiple ethnic and tribal groups, rich in culture and resources that have been persistently pillaged by domestic and international forces since colonial times. Fieldview Solutions has had the privelege of many invitations to come to this beautiful region to support those working for peace and human rights.)

2010: Case study on the work of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the DRC

Fieldview's book, "Influence on the Ground: Understanding and Strengthening the Protection work of United Nations Human Rights Field Presences" was based on case study field research including a detailed study of the UN OHCHR mission in the DRC in 2010. Field study focused on Kinshasa, Kananga, North Kivu and Kisangani.

2010-2012: Training the UN Department of Peace Operations (DRC)

The Democratic Republic of Congo hosts the largest peacekeeping operation in the world. As part of Fieldview's global project providing innovative field training to United Nations Civil Affairs units all over the world, we provided training to hundreds of UN Civil Affairs officers in 2010 and again in 2012.

Norwegian Refugee Council special projects

Building on a relationship established by Fieldviews's Roger Nash's work in Sri Lanka, Fieldview was invited to the eastern Congo by NRC in 2012 to research a ground-breaking study, "Non-military strategies for Protection in the DRC"(English French). This was accompanied by protection trainings of NRC staff as well as the design and facilitation of a workshop with the Protection Cluster on communication with armed groups.
